The nation was shocked and saddened by the tragedy that occurred at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis. Two children were killed and several others injured when a man fired into the church during a morning mass. The gunman took his own life after the shooting.

Several questions remain to be answered about this tragic event.

The shooter was reported to be transgender. Did the medications required for those undergoing transition have any adverse effect on this person's mental state? Were they taking any other medications that may have mixed badly with the transition drug regime? Could interactions of any medications had led to his violent behavior?

Were the guns used obtained legally? If they belonged to another person, is the owner of the firearms responsible for the tragedy? Would a ban on so called "assault rifles" have prevented this shooting? If a person is intent on inflicting harm, would such a ban have restricted their actions? I think not. If a person is intent on hurting others, they will find a way to do so.

Why was the request for school security funds made by the Minnesota Catholic Conference denied? Why did state officials, including the governor, ignore these requests in light of a religious school shooting in Tennessee? Are children who attend religious school not considered as important as public school students? Minnesota Governor Walz wants the state to be a safe haven for transgender children. But does this dedication and support of the trans community cloud his judgement and cause him to disregard protection for all students?

Should those that called for a ban on "assault rifles" be admonished for using this tragedy to push their political agenda? Such people will use any event to speak of their political beliefs. I find this behavior despicable.

Are mental health services easily available for those in need? Anyone who opens fire on innocent people, especially children, is mentally unstable. They are in desperate need of help. But getting an appointment to see a mental health counselor can be difficult. This needs to change.

The shooter apparently left writings spouting violent beliefs that included calls to kill the president. What is wrong in our American society that an individual such as this man can feel such hate? Are violent video games leading people to be desensitized to killing? Is the rhetoric spewed on certain news programs encouraging unbalanced people to act violently?

Two innocent children are dead. Others were injured. Those in the church at that time witnessed an event that may scare them psychotically. What must happen in our nation to prevent such tragedies? Hopefully, these questions will be answered before another mentally unstable person takes action to cause harm.
